Question of the day

A film review and a question: Where do the orcs get their food for Goblintown?

Tokien once wrote that there were huge irrigated fields using slaves in south east Mordor, and there is an essay on line (by Martinez) that notes the economic/trade connections for Rivendale and for the Shire, but there are no pro orc fiefdoms in the empty north. Maybe hydroponics?

Saruman got food from the Shire, and the lands south and east of the shire were "empty" but probably contained some farms and ranches..

Orcs are genetically related to elves and men, so they had to eat...and although their cannibalism (inspired by a word in Beowulf) is often emphasized, they did eat bread (and gave some to Pippin and Merry).

But since Tolkien was a professor, not a shop keeper or involved in logistics during his army stint, such things were not his strong point.
