Simbang Gabi starts this morning.

the nine day prayer (AKA Novena) before Christmas was a mass traditionally said very early in the morning so that farmers could attend it before going to the fields. Simbang Gabi translates the night mass; an alternative name is the Misa de Gallo (the mass of the rooster, i.e. at dawn). link

Lolo would sometimes attend the mass here when he was well, but not me (I don't do mornings).

But in modern days, often they hold the mass at other times.
Our church has morning mass, but also has an alternate time in the early evening for people to attend after work.
