another local custom is SimbangGabi: presdawn mass for 9 days before Christmas, originally so the farmers could attend before they went to work.

 Lolo used to get up and go, but I rarely did: Too early. Traditionally after mass, everyone goes to eat together: And here, the young folks all go to the city square down the street from the church to socialize.

The celebration with food and family is very Filipino: and yes, since God is part of the family (Father God, Kuya Jesus and Mama Mary etc.) and Jesus' first miracle was providing wine for a marriage fiesta, we don't see the problem with this.
