Remembering the fall of the evil Empire:

Another Easter story.

as I noted in my previous post, in Orthodox countries, the Easter Greeting is: Christ is risen. And the answer is: He is Risen indeed.

During the time of Brezhnev, there is a joke that a believer called out to him: Christ is risen comrade. Brezhnev ignored him, but a few steps later, he hears again the cry Christ is risen, and the joke goes that Brezhnev answered: Yes, I have been told that before.

The joke is based on a true incident where a priest did indeed call that out at a public ceremony highlighting the military strength of the USSR, reminding the officials: Christ is Risen Comrade.

In an officially atheist country, the fact that a person had the courage to do such a thing in public was a witness that 60 years of persecution did not kill the church, but a promise that it would resurrect.

As, indeed, it did a few years later, when against all the predictions of western intelligentsia, communism fell quietly and mostly peacefully.

There is a lot of propaganda about the fall of communism due to capitalism or rock and roll another materialistic reason, that is, if the history is even told: One suspects the "snowflakes" have never heard about the "Evil Empire" or the millions who were killed there, let alone why it fell.

The history of how Reagan and Pope John Paul II and the untold history can be found HERE. (ebook for download)

for all the cynicism, propaganda, and hysteria in the MSM, it is good to remember not the evil that killed so many, but the lesson that good would resurrect again, like Christ from the tomb.
