Volcanic cooling

Mt Pinatubo not only caused millions of people to be displaced here in the Philippines, but lowered the world's temperature 2 degrees for a year or two.

But historically, other volcanos caused the "year without a summer" and resulted in Mary Shelley writing Frankenstine after being stuck indoors with her philandering paramour.

But another volacano, Laki in Iceland, was even more catestrophic, but not as well known, resulting in haze, cooling and later crop failures in Europe.
