Fewer cases of Covid: the good news.

.....

A discussion of how anti-virals work. And the youtube page has the links to the articles he cites.

Note his sarcasm about the press and government war against Ivermectin that ignores the science. One hopes a similar disinformation campaign will not go on against Pfizer's newer medicine. The main problem with this new medicine is that it is too expensive for folks here.

here in our area, the quarantine level is down.

and more importantly the NCR, i.e. Manila is now down to level 2.

and case of covid are down.

so the quarantine is working? actually the quarantine has been made less strict, but despite this lots of folks are breaking the safety protocols....

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 97,635 violations of minimum public health and safety protocols against COVID-19 in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus areas from November 5 to November 8, or since Metro Manila was placed under Alert Level 2.

Nationwide, 144,295 violators of minimum public health and safety protocols were recorded for the same period

(no mention if it is all that illegal Ivermectin being taken since Duterte stopped the govt from prosecuting those taking this medicine in early Septemeber. The DOH still says don't take it... hmm...).

in other news: Inquirer report on the rice harvest.

Imported rice is still a major source for rice here. And that is making our selling price lower. The gov't allows rice to be imported to keep the food cheap, but cheap imported rice not only lets the big importers get rich but underprices the local farmers. (and don't ignore the large amount of rice smuggled into the country).

Despite the typhoons, the harvest here is good. The bad news is that the price of raising rice has increased due to the increase in fertilizer and diesel.

unemployment remains high, but as the quarantine lifts, and the restaurants etc reopen things should improve.

but until the contract workers go back to their jobs in other countries, the unemployment level will remain high.

On the other hand, the Inquirer notes factory output here is increasing.

and the MB reports a 7% growth in the economy, but it's not back to pre covid levels yet.

With the number of cases in SE Asia falling, RU notes that South East Asian countries are opening their economies. which should help the supply chain.

One small observation: Lots of people walking around out there, and more kiosks selling food etc....and there were people in the mall, but not many.

However, most of those coming for financial help have been babies dehydrated from diarrhea, which our maid notes is going around the barangay.

Also more kids needing a rabies shot because of dogbites. Which suggests the kids are outside playing again.

a reminder that other diseases can kill people too.
