touring the town

My son and his wife are leaving today: they have been visiting for the last week...

Since I am essentially home bound, my stepson and wife took them around various places: My son works as a groundskeeper and once worked in a fish breeding industry, so they visited the organic farms to see how rice and organic veggies are grown.  They hoped to see how we now harvest rice: we now use a machine to do it, whereas 20 years ago a lot of it was still harvested by hand. However, the rice isn't ready to be harvested for another week, so they merely visited the fields...,

this video is about the local coop sponsored by the government and run by our daughter in law.....

For the last three days, they have been hitting the local markets and the big supermarket and with my step son they are busy cooking Mexican food. Alas, no corn tortillas or even wheat tortillas, so we have to do with doritos, but because of historical ties of the Philippines and Mexico most of the other ingredients are available.....

I was teasing them they should open a Mexican restaurant here: We have local food restaurants, fast food from the USA, Japanese restaurants, halal restaurants and even a Korean restaurant but no Mexican one. All of these have opened since I moved here 20 years ago, when it was still pretty much a traditional area with waterbuffalo grazing in the nearby lots (which now have houses) and not a lot of traffic (now with the one way street, we have a lot of traffic going by our business center/home). But the traditional palenke is still down the street (The malls are in the newer part of town), and we are not in a gated community but mostly middle class and the poorer areas are nearby.

So anyway, they leave later today to go to Thailand to visit tourist sites and eat Thai food. Our granddaughter teaches English at a high school in a nearby suburb so will join them over the weekend, and maybe take them to restaurants or the nearby nature areas so they can visit the elephants.
