boomer actors get a second chance

so we are watching the series Only Murders in the Building, which is a hit murder mystery series:

...we are on series three, and despite all the talent, it is Meryl Streep who steals every scene she is in .

 

Hmm...here are some other examples.

Well, at least they are playing their own age not trying to look like teenagers like in Hallmark type films, and all the characters are a bit quirky. 

So a nice cozy mystery series if you are getting tired of all the films that have murder porn i.e. constant shoot outs where no one cares if the ones killed are dead or alive or have families.

I am a fan of what is called cozy mysteries: and the queen of cozy mysteries is of course, Agatha Christie.

And her Miss Marple was a godsend for actresses who are over the sex symbol age.

some of the MIss Marples are played by the best actresses in the film industry including Helen Hayes, Angela Lansbury, and for the BBC, Joan HIckson et al.

I like the later Miss Marples but it is Hickson that most mirrors the character in the book

And if you can find it, the Margaret Rutherford Miss Marple is not true to the books but is a classic in it's own way.

Finally, again if you can find it, one spin off of the character is of course Murder she wrote. The character does not resemble Miss Marple (she is more optimistic and warm for one thing) but it does show how an actress can age gracefully.
