War, war, beautiful war...(paranoia alert)

With the world rejoicing over the Messiah's election, here is the PC version of his position on issues...first thing he will do is remove all restrictions on abortions, including job protection for Catholic and Muslim Doctors/nurses/pharmacists who might refuse to cooperate with abortion...

his fiats on abortion will be easy, but he knows didlysquat about war issues except for the left's anti American meme...which may not be accurate....

I worry he will be JimmyCarter Redux...and that the bad guys will figure he will hesitate before firing back.

The bad news: The Israelis know this, which is why I predict Israel will hit Iran before the inauguration...while they still can rely on Bush backing them...

Update: Uh: I was being paranoid and cranky with the above post....but when I got my RSS feed from the LATIMES I found this....

On the other hand, one hopes an African American president might try stopping the genocides in Central Africa...where multinationalism and the UN has helped but hasn't stopped the killings.

What I said on Central Africa: Ditto for Zimbabwe...

News below the fold

GetReligion blog notes that 110 Catholic bishops have spoken out about election issues...with little press coverage of the issue...
The blog also discusses the "pew gap"story....

-----------------------
The latest Librivox download summary: “I seen my opportunities and I took ‘em.”, George Washington Plunkitt of Tamminy Hall. There’s honest graft and dishonest graft according to Plunkitt. Listen to this candid discourse from a 19th century politician, and decide for yourself if things have changed..

Refugee camps attacked in the Congo...50thousand flle...ho hum it's only Africa...don't expect to see it on the news...and don't expect anyone but the UN to send troops, and the UN Peacekeepers are too few to do much good.

the big question of the day:
Where are the muon-muon pairs coming from? and what the Heck is a muon muon pair?
The easy explanation is HERE...and HERE...

it has to do with dark matter...

no, it doesn't have anything to do with the Kef MUON Loudspeakers that cost $140,000...

ICEAGE update: mouse cloned from frozen skincells...
Cells from dead bodies have previously been useless as they are ruined in the freezing process. But Wakayama's team discovered a way to extract a nucleus intact from a frozen cell by grinding cell tissues into multiple pieces.

Their aim is to grow a mammoth...

People with Down's syndrome are prone to certain disease (leukemia, chronic hepatitis) due to bone marrow/immune cell problems...
One of the curiosities is that people with Down's syndrome develop Alzheimer's disease in their 40's...and pathological changes are the same as in the elderly...

But one man with Down's is 70 without problems...the question is why...

----------------

Sigh. A small boat that ferries passengers sank near Dimasalang here in the Philippines...40 dead, some still missing...it was a wooden hull outrigger that is common here for traveling between the small islands...there was a small storm, and some say it turned over from a wave, others from a whirlwind...119 officially aboard, but it may have been overloaded...

Heh. Pope supports evolution

and goes back to St. Augustine to explain why.

Of course, he does not support the philosophy of materialism and atheism that has masqueraded as evolution theory, but that's another story.

Presumably this is too subtle for the "stupid illiterate biblical creationist versus wise scientist" meme of the media, but never mind.

Ignatius blog quotes Cardinal Schonborn:

"there are many proofs in favor of evolution."

Nevertheless, he stressed, "though this theory enriches our knowledge of life, it doesn't respond to the great philosophical question: Where does everything come from and how did this everything take a path until coming to be man?"

Therefore, Cardinal Schönborn contended, the key is discovering "that a preceding idea exists, that man is not the fruit of chaos, but that he 'has been thought of,' 'wanted' and 'loved'" by the Creator.

Maedlyn Dunham, Rest in Peace

This remarkable lady not only stood by her daughter when she got pregnant out of wedlock, she helped her daughter finish her schooling and helped raise her grandson when the single mom was unable to do so, as a young child and later as a teenager (when mom's work in rural Asia meant no decent schools for a growing boy, she had to choose whether to send him to a boarding school or having him stay with grandparents to attend middle and high school).

Blog too serious...must have LOLCAT

funny pictures of cats with captions
more animals

Nah, don't listen to the bishops

I've read lots of stories about Obama "reaching out" to Catholics using his front groups, which try to reeducate Catholics by using Catholic dissadents or leading "catholic" senators to lie about church doctrine.
Well, 60 bishops so far have corrected these stories, and gotten little press in the matter....

hmmm...wonder why?

Archbishop Chaput has a series discussing these issues and his recent book on church state relationships here on youtube...

hmmm...wonder why so few "news" outlets have noticed him...

Guess they are prejudiced against Native Americans...
-----------------

In an unrelated subject, Joseph Pearce (who once was an anti Catholic Northern Irish skinhead) has an interview about his latest book on Frankenstein...

One of these days I'll read the book as opposed to the many movies made about it...the Librivox download for the audiobook is here....

Why I support handgun ownership

I could survive for 60 seconds chained to a bunk bed with a velociraptor

Created by Bunk Beds.net

Yes, against Velociraptors, I don't stand a chance...but with a 12 guage shot gun, I might make it...

But to tell the truth, I don't know how to shoot a gun...I hate guns...I even had a "waiver" not to carry a handgun in the National Guard......(guns in the Philippines are illegal so we don't own one)...
However, Lolo has a 18 inch machete next to our bed, and two vicious dogs sleeping under the bed to keep us safe...

A commenter sent the above link to more fractal videos...

With discussion of what fractals are.

Trivia fact for today:

A cauliflower is a fractal like design...so are ferns and snowflakes.

Swampgas take two

Methane in the atmosphere went way up last year.
Is it the cowbelches, the ricepaddies, the manure, or did a bubble of swamp gas let go?

Puppies puppies puppies

The black dog went into labor this morning...had me up and down all night with her restlessness (she sleeps in our bedroom)...

This morning she has had four puppies, two spotted white with brown spots, and two brown.

We'll see if she has any more...the last time she had six but two died. These are all good sized, so we hope they'll be okay.

Sorry no photos: My camera is down...battery died.
