Stuff that's not on CNN

A couple of posts down I noted that although CNN was busy blaming Bush for the Hurricane and the riots, that the real news is being ignored.
I noted that aside from the 90,000 people in Red Cross shelters and the 30,000 people at the superdome, that probably a million were being cared for by local churches.
And I noted that probably the Baptist churches were loading vans up with food, water, and blankets for the refugees, and probably taking along kids from their youth group to help in the cleanup.
Well, I was partly right.
The link is about 75 Catholic students from an OkCity youth group going to help.
You also have these headlines:
Mayor says donations exceed expectations (and note that thousands of refugees are already there or are headed toward OKC) LINK
Man drives 12 hours to help out LINK
Local churches plan aid effort LINK
OKC sends police and firement to help LINK
Guardsmen head to Lousiana LINK

Now: that is merely the unofficial help from the Oklahoma city area...(it doesn't mention families going down to aid relatives or letting refugees stay in their homes in OKC)

Now, multiply this by a couple hundred: Amarillo, Lawton, Tulsa, Muskogee, Birmingham, Bartlesville, Houston, Denton, etc. etc. and you will see how America works.

So those of us who have been thru disasters such as floods/tornadoes/hurricanes and forest fires, albeit on a lesser scale than this, probably agree with this essay:

Or you can believe everything you see on CNNI...and the finger pointing at those who are really trying to do their best, but alas are not Jesus Christ reincarnated who can predict the future, and then make things better in two seconds by walking on water (to bring supplies into flooded N.O.), healing the sick, and making houses reappear in two minutes flat...
