Flash: Cholesterol lowering drugs don't prevent cancer

But your NSAIDs do...

Actually, when the first Statin studies came out, the joke among docs was that if take Zocor, you don't die of heart disease, you die of cancer...

You see, although the heart attack death rate was lower, the actual death rate was the same...because the small NUMBER of decreased heart deaths was equal to a small INCREASE in the number of bowel cancer deaths...

But in another study, they did not find an increase in bowel cancer, but the death rate was the same...because of an increase of deaths from suicide/homicide/violent deaths....
They actually did a study to see if this was "real" or not...but it was merely a statistical fluke...

You see, the percentages sound nice, but if you look at the numbers, the actual number differences in the studies are small...

Now, this doesn't mean you should stop your Lipetor: we now use much higher doses, and we DO see a clear decrease in cardiovascular deaths if you take it...

However, that doesn't mean you should stay 300 pounds and a couch potatoe and merely pop pills...

Summary: The fact that good diet, cleanliness, and exercize help people live longer has been known since Hippocrates...but ignore the story of the week, because it might be exaggerated...
