Headlines of the day

Good news: DingDong the Witch is dead...
Bad News: CNN INT is busy with spin... And theLA Times managed to find a "mixed reaction" to the death...quoting five "random Iraqis", all critical...

Good news: the family of the Brit who was similarly killed on tape has a different opinion, as do a couple thousand Iraqis who are shown dancing in the streets...even the leftist Guardian calls AlZarqawi a "monster"....

Good News: The Philippines has outlawed the death penalty, to the delight of the Catholic bishops and the European Union (hint to European Union: Send checks in dollars, please).

Bad News: informal death penalty is still being administered to leftists, reporters and "militants"...I am a bit cynical about the third group. You see, I agree that it's a no no to go around killing a reporter. But a lot of the "militants" have murdered people. And they will kill for anyone with enough money...But, of course, the human rights groups don't whine about barangay captains killed, or when a doctor killed in the crossfire when the local "militants" are hired to kill the family of a rival businessman...

Bad News: the press just discovered ACE inhibitors cause birth defects...duh...they have had a "black box" warning about birth defects for several years (Black box means danger danger)....nice to know the press is ahead of the curve...

Good news: the increase in defects is not that high..."The rate of defects among infants exposed to the drugs was 2.7 times that of infants who were not.
Translation: The risk of congentical heart disease is now 2.7% instead of the baseline rate of one percent...

Bad news: Exercize improves hot flashes. It is bad news because this means one more burden on the time of many busy women...many of whom are burning out from not being able to work 20 hour days anymore...
Good news: The Czechs have a better idea

Good news: Prarie Home Companion is a movie
Bad News: Robert Altman added his own cliche ridden agenda to the story of Lake Wobegon...

Altman's subplot is that the radio program is being taken off the air because an evil capitalist developer has bought the theatre and is going to tear it down...

How 1970! Earth to Altman: It's 2006. Repeat after me: PODCAST.

And who needs a theatre? You can always rent the local VFW hall or the local high school auditorium....heck, all you need is Glen Reynold's living room, a PC and a few hundred dollars of equipment to podcast...

Rotten Tomatoes liked the movie, but even there the reviewers there like the Keillor part, and slam Altman's slant...

Bad News: Angelina Jolie is...the AntiChrist...at least blogcritic says so.....the article is only for those who have a twisted sense of humor...

And finally, the good news: JACK BAUER IS being made into a movie...Hopefully Hollywood will not make the plot PC, and have Jack fight greedy businessmen trying to start a war in south Ickystan to get the oil...but if it is made in Hollywood, you never know...
