Some guy making deadly ricin in his motel room in Vegas gets poisoned.
Who do they call to clean it up? The Hazmat team.
The unsung heroes who clean up all sorts of chemical spills, and rarely get their photos in the papers...the news doesn't even identify if they are police, city, firemen, EPA, FBI, or NationalGuard personnel.
When I worked in Idaho 20 years ago, some truck spilled an unknown chemical at the local truckstop, and we ended up hospitalizing two firemen and treating a half dozen others. No protective suits/respirators back then.
Since that time, there's been a lot more training in the cleanup, and a lot more emphasis on safety and protective clothing etc.
And the guys and gals who risk their lives doing these things rarely get noticed.
Just everyday heroes doing their jobs.
