Philippine news

Heh. bomb threat in package sent to US embassy here...got two hits on google news...
It's not the first:

"...It has been nearly two months since a package with a fragmentation grenade was discovered in front of the US embassy compound along Roxas Boulevard in Manila..."

Actually, bomb threats and bombings don't get a lot of publicity here, partly to discourage the perpetrators, and partly because a lot of them are personal feuds, or criminal , not terrorism per se.

and the headline of the day?

Let's Cha-cha, solons tell Aquino, colleagues

looks like Gloria and friends haven't stopped hoping (she can't run for President again under the constitution, but charter Change would allow her another chance....

death toll in floods/landslides now 40....
"...

Ramos said the amount could still increase because of the continuing inclement weather in these already devastated regions. The number of people displaced already breached the one million mark at 1,294,039..."

It hasn't been one hurricane, as with Ondoy, it's just heavy rains during the rainy season in various poor areas (Albay, Leyte, Eastern Visayas, Mindanao) where denuded hills (from illegal logging) and poor flood control/drainage/sewage infrastructure means being unable to cope with the downpours.

The press is, as always, right on top of the story: on Google News, the devastating flood here got 170 news articles in recent days, but if you add old ones back to December, you can find another 4oo more.

in contrast, Australia's floods got 8000 recent articles listed, and press criticism of Sarah Palin daring to defend herself got 4000 articles...

Priorities I guess.

Again, Instapundit has the best links on the kerfuffle on the shootings...

But I wish the narcissists in the US would pay attention to the folks in the world who are really suffering, instead of spinning -and playing politics with finger pointing.

10 Restaurants worth a plane ride

article in the NYTimes starts with this restaurant:

"...Aponiente, which opened in 2005 in a small port village in southern Spain, specializes in sustainable seafood..."

Yes, travel 3000 miles to eat in a restaurant that only uses "sustainable" seafood"...That's how you can enjoy yourself and protect the environment.

Or maybe just get a Big Mac down the street and send the difference to help the Pinoy flood victims. ABSCBN has video of latest area flooded in Leyte HERE.
