a similar clannishness may have been behind a lot of the problems with the Catholic bishops. But "democracy" isn't the answer: it's too easy for a small group of activists to implement their agenda (the reason many women's orders ended up destroyed, and why the "mainline" protestant churches are hemorrhaging members)...

The Vatican's way to counteract this is twofold: Wait for the corrupt bishops to die (or resign in disgrace) and replace them with good men, while encouraging a new "John Paul II" generation of young people to replace the aging "reformers".

The Democrats have a similar problem: See above comment on Obama activists. The "Reagan Democrats" and maybe the majority of voters backed Hillary, and that bodes badly for the President now that they are out of work.

G) The debt ceiling was all a big lie to scare you. Every media outlet was writing headlines about how the U.S. was going to default. This was ridiculous. Debt ceiling or no debt ceiling, the U.S. was already allowed to roll over debts to make interest payments. It was false that we were ever going to default. But it made for good headlines, so newspapers and TV networks kept talking about it, scaring people so they’d keep reading and tuning in. For shame!
