Stuff below the fold (plus rants)

Gossip alert: The DiploMad has a snarky anecdote about how being a Kennedy means never having to say you are sorry.

TORN has a video of Jackson at Comic.con.

It's about more than oil: "unregulated" fishing is decimating fish populations off of Palawan..

most of this is probably by local fishermen, but the increased number of Chinese fishing vessels off the coast of Palawan and Luzon bodes ill for the fish stocks.

and the live fish are ending up in Hong Kong... hmmm...guess those Chinese Navy Ships are doing some fishing.

Father L has an essay about the historicity of the gospels.

Most of this goes over my head, since most critics live in their own little world.

What is missing is someone with hands on experience. In archeology, one way to discover how folks once lived is to see parallels in today's world. It might not be correct, but it often results in better insight than a citified professor's theories.

Ssnce anyone who has lived in the rural third world knows, big shot preachers attracting crowds and making the authorities nervous is nothing new. Even all those miracles are happening today in the third world. The "experts" think the miracles are "made up", but probably most of the miracles happened:most probably had natural reasons behind them, but to the folks involved, they were miracles.

And another pet peeve of mine: I am still waiting for someone to do a paper on how corruption is portrayed in the gospels...the experts lament that the charges by the writers that Judas was a thief was libel, but the writers and most of their early readers seem to take it for granted that the guy holding the purse would be skimming off the top and that the Temple merchants were not only bilking their customers but probably paying kickbacks to the (Roman appointed ) priests who ran the temple.

Wired has an article on the energy crisis.

What is important is how the writer of the book being interviewed points out that many ordinary folks who despise the "global warming" stuff actually believe in conservation and being green, but for different reasons.

Yes, I've been saying this for awhile. I despise the "green" religion and their planned NWO that will dismantle the ability of normal folks to live comfortably, but most of us do try to live green because we oppose pollution and environmental degradation.

HUH? post of the day:

Hillary supports Islamicist president in Egypt...
She added that the U.S. would forgive $1 billion in Egyptian debt and provide $280 million for economic development.

There's a lot of political stuff being written about Egypt, and I am clueless, but Spengler of the Asian Times points out that they are short money and can't feed themselves so have to buy bread...and so, no matter how much they hate infidels and Israelis, they have to make nice...

Gateway pundit (rightwing blog): Secular democratic activists and Christians throw tomatoes and ask where is Monica?
