Koigate?

It says a lot that when Trumpieboy copies Abe and feeds the koi, that the MSM take it the photo out of context to ridicule him.

yes, I know: Rich yuppies who don't own koi love to relate how they "feed" the fish out of their hand. Presumably pieces of bread? Because the koi food is small pellets, too small to hold in one's fingers.

We have koi, in our fountain (we have them there mainly to eat mosquito larvae that would breed there if we didn't).

We feed them fish food by dumping in a handful or two. How much do you feed them? We give enough food for them to eat in five to ten minutes. If you feed them too much (or they are sick,) the food just floats there. If you feed them rice, it will go down to the bottom and they will eat it later. True, you can overfeed them but one episode of overfeeding won't kill koi: They are not that fragile.

What kills our koi is when we lose electricity and the pump is off and the oxygen level goes down, or in the hot season where the water evaporates and gets old, and we have to replace it.

we had a die off once, and had to replace 2/3 of the water. we removed the fish to do this, and lost five of them. (which we later salted and ate: They are carp after all).

We have given some of them away also: right now we have seven adults and lots of babies, who rarely survive to grow up. I used to help the kids "fish" them and take them home. The kids loved to do this. But now the kids grew up, so we just give away the excess larger koi to keep the population down.
