WTF story of the day (Nativity scenes)

The Vatican Nativity scene has been banned from Facebook because it was.... sexually suggestive? No, not the nakedness, but  one does wonder why the "poor beggar" in the "clothing the naked" part of the tableau has such wonderful six pack abs...

St Francis of Asssi started the first Nativity scene, so people could get an idea that Christ's birth was real, among real people, so the poor could identify with him.

so how should we visualize the birth of Christ?

Well, not like most of the Renaissance pictures or even modern Christmas tableaus.

and a "modern" depiction would be in a garage or in an abandoned truck for shelter.

That is by Joey Velasco.

------------------------

in our church, they have statues and place it in a shelter. Before Christamas, Mary and Joseph are there, and our patron saints, the Three Kings, are on the side altar. ... then at the Gloria they darken the church and the star comes down to light the Nativity scene.
