Death Rays and hagfish slime

I remember when Reagan first proposed the anti missile idea dubbed "Star Wars", it was ridiculed, since it brought to mind the laser weapons of SW and Battlefield Galactica which were popular memes then.

But of course, the anti missile systems used old fashioned explosions against missiles. Ah, but the enemy could overwhelm them with a huge barrage, and given the thousands of smaller  rockets in southern Lebanon and Gaza, what do you do?

I brought this up because in the AustinBay article cited in my previous post, he remarked:

America is an enemy that can vote by diplomatic and economic means. On the battlefield American votes range from Delta Force knives (and dogs) to drone-fired missiles to B-52 bomb raids to nuclear weapons and -- within the next three or so years -- battlefield lasers.

of course, not all possible weapons are high tech: Pop mech has an article proposing taking out small attack boats with hagfish slime which could tangle up the propellers and clog the air intake valves of attacking ships.

this could be a weapon to stop the swarming boat tactics of maritime pirates.
