This leads to around 500,000 hospitalizations per year and an estimated 12,000 deaths.... The Philippines’ Department of Health has reported nearly 23,000 dengue cases this year alone. In Singapore, dengue infections skyrocketed from 4,000 four years ago to 18,000 last year...

What was ignored was his ethnic cleansing of the Ndebele tribe:

Blackfive and Confederate Yankee points out that films of children playing and then being blown apart by suicide bombing (such as illustrated in a previous post) are not being pushed by insurgents, who prefer to be seen as successful soldiers, not murderers...

Haloween Recipes
Mealworm fried rice:
Mealworm Fried Rice
Ingredients:
* 1 egg, beaten
* 1 tsp. oil
* 3/4 c. water
* 1/4 c. chopped onions
* 4 tsp. soy sauce
* 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
* 1 c. minute rice
* 1 c. cooked mealworms
Directions:
Scramble egg in a saucepan, stirring to break egg into pieces.
Add water, soy sauce, garlic and onions. Bring to a boil.
Stir in rice. Cover; remove from heat and let stand five minutes.

Family News
Chano and Joy have meetings about the overseas trade fair in Manila next week.
The house is being "Decorated" by pulling out bricks and replacing them with decorative bricks. Also replacing some ancient windows..oh, the noise the noise. I'm trying to talk Lolo into going to the farm to escape the dust, but someone has to stay home and watch the place so we're it.
The baby birds died of the heat. The puppies and kittens are fine.
Next week the harvest is starting.
Posting will be light because I'm trying to document the medical education on line by doing the tests on line (i.e. I've done them, I have to copy them to the test on line). What a mess. Oh well.

Dyspeptic athiest explains Benedict 's speech
A lot of reporters misreported the Pope's speech in Germany, then whined they didn't understand it (Except for the NYTimes, which misread it and then printed a scathing editorial based on their misreading).
So when I see the normally dyspeptic Spengler, no friend of catholicism, explain faith and reason, I sat up.
Summary of his summary:
Reason and faith need each other, the pope argued in Regensburg....nature is logical, but why? That answer is found in theology and philosophy.
But reason as understood by the West allows us to question even God...in Islam, reason is merely a sign of God, used only to help us be in awe of him and obey him not allowing independent thought. It does not allow doubt.

A follow up of the Lancet article. Their data is flawed and exaggerated for political reasons...which is unfortunate, since as Hitchens points out in Slate, if 3/4 of these deaths were deliberate targeting of civilians, shouldn't that make us even more eager to stop them and not let them take over?

On reading the recent Lancet article claiming a huge number of civilian Iraqis killed, I suspected that their numbers were biased because of sample bias (they used a GPS instead of demographically chosen samples) ...but not being a statistician or sociologist, I could only suspect...Did the MSM bother to question any experts in these fields? Naah...not that I saw anyway.
Well, IraqiBodyCount points out the lapses in the study...go read it. Guess they're joining the EvilHItlerBush conspiracy too...
